چکیده

This paper presents a one dimensional steady state mathematical model for the simulation of a small scale fixed-bed gasifier. The model is based on a set of differential equations describing the entire gasification process of softwood pellets and is solved by a two step iterative method. The main features of the model are: homogeneous and heterogeneous combustion and gasification reactions, one step global pyrolysis kinetics and drying, heat and mass transfer in the solid and gas phases as well as between phases, heat loss, particle movement and shrinkage within the bed. The model is used to simulate a laboratory scale fixed-bed updraft gasifier. Good agreement is achieved between prediction and measurements for the axial temperature profiles. The prediction of the composition and particularly of the tar content of the producer gas is imprecise due to insufficient data regarding the product composition of primary pyrolysis of softwood pellets. Therefore, the tar ratio of the primary pyrolysis reaction has been reduced and the remaining reported tar ratio undergoes a secondary reaction forming lighter gases and finally the model is in good agreement with experimental data.

Theoretical and Experimental Study of Potato Shoot Gasification in Fluidized- and Fixed-Bed Gasifier

A bench-scale updraft gasifier was used as a fluidized- and fixed-bed gasification unit in three modes (fluidized-bed at equivalence ratios (ER) =0.2 and 0.25, and a mode in fixed-bed). The experiments were done in five different temperatures (650, 700, 750, 800 and 850oC). To obtain the required data to develop a thermodynamic equilibrium model, the proximate and ultimate analysis w...

A Numerical Model Simulation for an Updraft Gasifier Using High Temperature Steam

A mathematical model study was carried out to investigate gasification of biomass fuels using high temperature air and steam as a gasifying agent using high-temperature air up to 1000°C. In this study, a 2D computational fluid dynamics model was developed to study the gasification process in an updraft gasifier, considering drying, pyrolysis, combustion, and gasification reactions. The gas and ...

Updraft gasification of salmon processing waste.

The purpose of this study was to judge the feasibility of gasification for the disposal of waste streams generated through salmon harvesting. Gasification is the process of converting carbonaceous materials into combustible "syngas" in a high temperature (above 700 degrees C), oxygen deficient environment. Syngas can be combusted to generate power, which recycles energy from waste products. At ...

Environmental-economic evaluation of sugar cane bagasse gasification power plants versus combined-cycle gas power plants

Approximately 2.4 million tons of bagasse are produced each year in Iran, most of which are currently treated as waste adding to serious environmental concerns. Application of bagasse for energy production is a sustainable solution to supply the required energy within the sugar refineries and export the surplus electricity to the grid. Currently, the energy demand in Iranian sugar mills is main...

A parametric modelling study for pressurised steam/O2- blown fluidised-bed gasification of wood with catalytic reforming

A model for pressurised steam/O2-blown fluidised-bed gasification of biomass with catalytic reforming of hydrocarbons and tars was developed using Aspen Plus simulation software. Seven main blocks were used to model the fluidised-bed gasifier and two for the catalytic reformer. Modelling blocks were complemented with FORTRAN subroutines to simulate the observed non-equilibrium behaviour of the ...
